Biography
Dr. Cohick is fascinated by the life and faith of the Jewish and Christian communities during the Hellenistic and Roman imperial periods, believing that gaining the fullest understanding of their world and time is useful in our present time and circumstances. She is particularly interested in studying women in the ancient world, including how they celebrated their faith. The study of the Apostle Paul and his epistles is also a particular focus of her writings and research.
Dr. Cohick enjoys preaching from the Bible, teaching on matters pertaining to women’s ministry, and exploring issues pertaining to the historical relationship between Jews and Christians. She has traveled to Israel, Greece, Turkey and Italy on study tours, including leading students on the Wheaton in the Holy Lands program and as part of the Christian Leadership Initiative, sponsored by the American Jewish Committee and the Shalom Hartman Institute, Jerusalem.

Breadwinners and Benefactors

In Acts, we see Lydia, who is a patron with clout, and Phoebe, whom Paul describes as a benefactor (Rom. 16:1-2). When you come across a Mary Magdalene and a Joanna in Luke 8, they supported Jesus and the disciples with their own money...This fits a pattern in the ancient world of women who are patrons, who are publically honored because they support groups.
