Biography

Georgeanna earned her BA(Hons) and MA in Japanese Studies from Cambridge University, and her Ed.D. in Higher Education Management from the University of Pittsburgh. Her dissertation was entitled "Identity Work and Sensemaking by Faculty Approaching Tenure." She has taught doctoral-level courses in qualitative research methods for the University of Pittsburgh School of Education and for Fielding Graduate University. She has taught undergraduate-level courses on the study of higher education for Grinnell College.

In her research, Georgeanna collects and analyzes qualitative data to understand the lived experiences of undergraduate students. She conducts interviews and focus groups on a range of topics related to campus life and academic pursuits, compiling multiple experiences and viewpoints into metanarratives, contextually rich themes that can inform decision-making, and empirical data to support a broad range of initiatives.

Georgeanna has conducted research on a wide range of undergraduate student experiences (student success, belongingness, enrollment choice, academic paths, particular demographic experiences, etc.), faculty careers, clinical and translational research education and careers, competency-based education, and inter-professional education. She has published 15 peer-reviewed articles in journals such as Academic Medicine, The Proceedings of the National Symposium on Student Retention, and The Clinical and Translational Science Journal, and has served as a peer reviewer for multiple journals. As the Assistant Director of the Institute for Clinical Research Education at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Georgeanna also developed and led faculty and pre-faculty career development programs, and served as the assistant director for the PhD program in Clinical and Translational Science.
